ACCESS ENSEMBLE: performing arts for people with a disability
Our Access Ensemble is a performing arts course designed specifically to cater for people with mild to moderate physical and/or intellectual disabilities. Our participants regularly tell us that they love coming to studioQ, because:
- our tutors are real actors and directors, who are eager to help them get what they want out of the course;
- they get to perform in a state-of-the-art theatre in front of a general public audience;
- they gain skills, confidence and experience in a professional theatre environment, and…
- they meet exciting new people, and make great friends.
Experience all the thrills and creative challenges of acting and live performance. Each week our Access Ensemble participate in acting, music and movement exercises designed to stimulate the creative imagination and develop skills in personal and creative self expression. Across two terms each ensemble moves towards developing a performance for public showing.
All ACCESSIBLE WORKSHOP participants also get at least 2 free tickets* per semester to use at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre (*performance/s eligible for this offer are selected by studioQ staff).
WHAT ROLE DO CARERS HAVE IN THE ACCESSIBLE WORKSHOPS?
Depending on the level of support required by the participant, some participants attend with carers and some attend individually. Carers are encouraged to take an active role in each session and may even find themselves performing on stage in the end of semester showcases! Tutors work closely with carers to ensure that participants get the most out of the course.
