Australian Composer in Focus
Ross Edwards

Saturday 23rd October 8pm
Adult $39 Concession $32

“If you’re looking for a quintessentially Australian sound you can’t go far wrong with Edwards. He has an instinct for sound which goes beyond clever orchestration, and he makes these characteristic features sound fresh and exciting”
Harriet Cunningham, Andante Magazine

One of Australia’s best known composers, Ross Edwards has created a unique sound world which seeks to reconnect music with elemental forces and restore such qualities as ritual, spontaneity and the impulse to dance.

His music, which is concerned with the age old mysteries confronting humanity, is at the same time deeply connected to it’s roots in Australia, whose cultural diversity it celebrates, and from whose natural environment it draws many of it’s shapes and patterns. Edwards has a body of contemplative works inspired by sounds of the Australian landscape.

This special concert also features the talent of Ensemble Offspring, who are dedicated to the performance of innovative new music. The Sydneybased ensemble is committed to a living classical music tradition combining the music of today with iconic works of the 20th and 21st centuries.
