Welcome to the 2013 Music Season
It’s always an exciting and gratifying experience to be involved in presenting a new season of music. It’s hard to believe that the Joan has been producing and delivering music for 23 years. The Joan thrives and continues to attract musicians and performers of the highest international standard.
In 2013 I have programmed a year filled with incredible music and performers designed to take the audience on a world journey: to Japan with the renowned Japanese funk musicians Osaka Monaurail; across to the deep south of America with Ruthie Foster’s award winning soulful blues; through Italy with Luca Ciarla and the brilliant Italian concert pianist Julian Gargiulo; to the Ukraine with concert pianist Roman Rudnytsky; down to Vienna with the Johann Strauss Ensemble and to New Zealand with the great and legendary soprano Dame Kiri Te Kanawa in a very special gala recital.
We also explore the best from our own shores with great ladies of song including Casey Donovan performing the music of Mama Cass and Christine Anu tearing it up with the Aretha Franklin Songbook. This year also sees the Joan introduce Pacific Opera to the region with Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro.
ABC Classic FM will return in April with their free Sunday afternoon live broadcast performances.
The availability of live music is one of the great privileges of our time as it unites and brings us together. Come and join us this year at the Joan. I’m looking forward to your company.
