PCoM offers weekly lessons to individuals who would like to develop their skills in a particular instrument or voice, including:

Stringed Instrument Tuition

A string instrument (or stringed instrument) is a musical instrument that produces sound by means of vibrating strings. The most common string instruments in the string family are violin, cello, viola double bass, guitar, and harp.

We offer private tuition for the following string instruments:

• Guitar (Steel, acoustic & electric)
• Cello
• Violin
• Viola
• Harp
• Double Bass

Group classes are also currently available for violin. However, we welcome enquiries regarding the other instruments.

Brass Tuition

A brass instrument is a musical instrument whose tone is produced by vibration of the lips as the player blows into a tubular resonator. They are also called labrosones, literally meaning "lip-vibrated instruments" (Baines, 1993).

We offer private tuition for the following brass instruments:

Woodwind Tuition

A woodwind instrument is a musical instrument which produces sound when the player blows air against an edge of, or opening in, the instrument, causing the air to vibrate within a resonator.

We offer private tuition for the following wood wind instruments:

• Flute
• Piccolo
• Clarinet
• Recorder
• Saxophone

Group classes are available for flute, on request.

Percussion Tuition

A percussion instrument is any object which produces a sound by being hit with an implement, shaken, rubbed, scraped, or by any other action which sets the object into vibration. This group can be divided into two groups, 'Definite Pitch' (e.g. xylophone) or 'Indefinite Pitch' (e.g. drums, tamborines, triangles etc).

We offer private tuition for the following percussion instruments:

• Marimba (similar to glockenspiel)
• Drums
• Hand Bells

Group classes are available for Hand Bells (as part of our Music Therapy).

Piano & Keyboard Tuition

Piano is the most popular instrument today, and is used for solo or accompaniment performances. It's by far the most popular form of tuition offered by the Conservatorium because of it's versatility and colour.

Throughout history, singing has been the most widespread and familiar way of making music. The voice had the unique ability to be able to fuse the word with the musical tone and for this reason singing and poetry are inseparable in most cultures.
