KROTCHET KIDS: Get ready to play!

Krotchet Kids is the next step in your child’s musical life. This super-fun course is designed to help young children gain the musical skills they need in preparation for learning the instrument they love. In these variety-packed sessions children will develop their skills & understanding of musical concepts, including rhythm, pitch & dynamics, and even begin to use musical notation – making it so much easier for them to learn an instrument when the time comes.

Children will have the opportunity to play simple tuned instruments such as the recorder and the ukulele. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience some different ways of making music before settling on a particular instrument to learn and fosters good practice habits. They will develop their aural skills with echo work on percussion instruments, they will play ostinati (repeated patterns) for simple songs, and use their knowledge about rhythm patterns to create their own patterns and begin elementary score-reading. A small amount of homework will be set each week - this helps develop a routine for practice when learning an instrument, as well as a sense of responsibility for the children in caring for their music book and remembering to bring it each week.
